We all know the classic line: the human body is about 70% water. Blah blah blah. Science class, check.
And yet… some of you still don’t drink enough water. Which means your body is missing the most basic support it needs to do its job properly.
Before we get into how to optimize the way we drink water, let’s start here: water isn’t optional. It’s basic survival.
🌡 Room temperature or warm water agrees with your body, since it’s more physiological, meaning, the water and body temps are similar, so your body doesn’t need to work extra to warm it up so it absorbs better.
🍲 Around and during meals, do not drink a lot of water as it will impair digestion, sipping a little is ok. Cold drinks around meals will definitely kill your digestive strength and create imbalances and diseases. Read: How to balance your digestive strength
🫘 Our kidneys have a set filtration capacity over an amount of time, and that is about 4 oz (120 ml) per around 30 min. So it’s no use chugging tons of water at once.
🌦️ Seasons and temperature change the amount of water you need. In hotter days, you sweat more, so more water is needed, on colder days, the opposite.
💦 Suggested amount is .5 oz per lb (your weigh) or 35ml per Kg. Roughly, with the following biological individuality in mind:
💨 Vatas tend to be drier, so if that’s the case increase the amount above
🔥 Pittas tend to hold a lot of heat, so hydration is extra important
🪨 Kaphas tend to retain liquid, so they usually need less than the above amount.
🤚🏽🍁 💩 Listen to your body
If your skin, hair, eyes, poop is dry, you may need more water or internal oleation, but that’s a different post! (Read it here) 💦 🎈 🍉 or if your retaining a lot of liquid, and circulatory, pulmonary and kidney conditions have been ruled out, watch how you’re drinking and you may need some exercise, massage, nutrition and lifestyle modifications.
To a balanced life!
